The London Association of Funeral Directors actively supports the education of members’ staff and has an Education Sub-committee responsible for oversight of educational activity. The Association’s Charitable Fund may be used to facilitate a wide range of educational objectives.

Activities and initiatives include –

  • Launching the Certificate in Funeral Arranging and Administration (Cert FAA) in 2007. The course is designed to enable funeral arrangers to have a full understanding of all aspects of arranging a funeral, including interpersonal skills. Over 200 students have passed the exam since its inception.
  • Holding periodic evening seminars on topical issues.
  • Awarding the Harold Rivett Award to the student, employed within the Association’s region, who attains the highest marks (gaining a distinction) in each exam of the National Diploma in Funeral Directing (DipFD).

Note: As stated above, educational opportunities arranged by the Association are offered as a benefit of membership to member firms only. Registration is available only to sponsored staff of those firms and cannot be accepted from individual applicants.

Course Q will be held will be held in Central London,

commencing on 18th April 2018 and culminating in an examination on 11th July 2018


A further course is planned for Autumn 2018

Course R  is being arranged , to be convenient for students from the south

commencing 29th August, it will run on Wednesday evenings until 14th November 2018.
