September iThe London Association of Funeral Directors actively supports the education of members’ staff and has an Education Sub-committee responsible for oversight of educational activity. The Association’s Charitable Fund may be used to facilitate a wide range of educational objectives.
- Delivery and assessment of the LAFD Certificate in Funeral Arranging and Administration (Cert FAA)
- Holding periodic evening seminars on topical funeral service related issues.
- Awarding the Harold Rivett Award to the student, employed within the Association’s region, who attains the highest marks (gaining a distinction) in each exam of the Diploma in Funeral Directing (DipFD).

Note: As stated above, educational opportunities arranged by the Association are offered as a benefit of membership to member firms only. Registration is available only to sponsored staff of those firms and cannot be accepted from individual applicants.
Certificate in Funeral Arranging and Administration
Since its inception in 2007, over 300 successful candidates have gained this qualification, aimed at equipping frontline stafff with the knowledge and skills essential to assist the bereaved with all aspects of arranging a funeral.
The course is overseen by David Hall DipFD, an NAFD Approved Tutor with many years of funeral service experience, and Dr Brian Parsons, training consultant, researcher and acclaimed author of several books on the funeral industry and funeral practices, including The London Way of Death and The Evolution of the British Funeral Industry (www.brianparsons.org.uk)
